Great question and yes, it's a whole thing! As Americans we can absolutely buy property in France, but the process is quite different from the US. Everything goes through a notaire (a government-appointed official) rather than a real estate attorney, and the timeline is much longer. I actually wrote a post with more details on this (including how to get a mortgage in France, as Americans). I’ll paste it here in case you’d like to check it out :) https://onceuponacastle.substack.com/p/getting-a-french-mortgage-as-an-american?r=5yj82i
Only if Belle also spent significant time filing French administrative paperwork and standing in rooms wondering ‘what that noise is’ 😂 In which case, yes. I’ll just be over here singing, “Bonjour, bonjour! Bonjour bonjour bonjour! There goes the heater with it’s broken pieces…”
This is so beautiful. Seems like a true fairytale. Cities are so overrated! Hope that one day my husband and I can find a place that we can call home 🤍 was there a reason you chose France?
Are those actually arrow slits near the top of the tower (and in the upper story shutters)? a different take on home security!
They are! And they’re in other parts of the castle, too! And yes, quite the historic defense system!
My husband and I love the idea of moving to Europe. Did you have to go through a special process to buy in Europe?
