We, too live in California and are planning a move to France- likely in 2027. How did you decide where to live and how are you finding adjusting to actual seasons, especially heat?
Welcome, and how fun that the video led you here! We were looking for something not too far from Paris and we've always loved the northwest, so we rented in a region for a couple of years to test it before buying, which I'd recommend to anyone. As for seasons, the heat this year was genuinely rough (three heatwaves), but not as bad as in the south of France, and real seasons are one of my favorite parts of the area. Happy to answer more as 2027 gets closer. How exciting that you're about to make the leap!

We are considering NW as well, perhaps as far south as La Rochelle and will choose a place for a multi- month rental next fall. We've been waiting for this! 🎉
We visited this summer- Paris and Strasbourg. Last year, Bordeaux. The heat is such a deterrent...we will see how we fare doing a winter in Brittany.
