We have neighbors a few blocks down the street, the wife helps Ewa with her TNR organization (SOKS) and they are wonderful people, two nice kids, and several cats so you know these folks are solid. One of the cats that we keep at our house when they're out of town has a seizure disorder but is really a chill mellow fellow but has a specific medical regimen we follow.
ANYWAY, the Dad starts way before Christmas hanging lights and works in stages to get it all hung. Besides the roofline string lights and icicles and big lit wreath at the Gable, and wrapping of bushes and tree trunks and hedges, and lighted candy canes along the walkway, there are the inflatables: You've got Minions (of course), a very large Seuss green Grinch with his dog, some other animal I can't figure out (could be a hedgehog?), stacked nested penguins like Russian Babushka dolls, and then some bears (!?) perched atop large (1 m diameter) lighted Christmas ornaments. The wife said he had to stop "because we ran out of extension cords" (which I thought was a bit of a weak excuse since there's a Home Depot not 5k away).
It is clearly the "best" display in the neighborhood. It's pretty, and pretty impressive, shows a lot of effort, and we usually try to include a swing by when we walk the dog at night. It is, as you imagined in your post, clearly So American 🇺🇸🎄🎆🗽💪🤳🤦

Love this description, Dan! There's definitely a difference in the festive decor, though I do love how Americans really get into the seasons, especially the joyful memories of driving through the streets with the most festive homes. :)

So true. In America, Christmas activities and decorations feel like a performance and a chance to signal status.
